Twitter Training: Tuesday, September 19, 10 a.m.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED – Email kellyshalk@gmail.com to participate. Slots will be filled in the order that we receive confirmations.

Discover ways on how to use Twitter to amplify your organization’s work as well as connect with other nonprofits/ advocacy groups. Topics to be covered include getting to know your way around the platform, setting goals for your organization, planning/developing content, as well as doing a calendar activity.

All levels are welcome including those who don’t directly manage your Twitter account or have never tweeted before (however we do find it most impactful when those who manage the organization’s social presence do attend.) This session is free of cost.

Spread the Word about ACA Enrollment Period

The White House is trying to undermine the Affordable Care Act by cutting the media budget that would have promoted the enrollment period. To counteract that we are asking you to participate in Indivisible’s Thunderclap campaign to get the word out about the enrollment period. Leverage your social networks to spread the word by September 9th. You can also call your MOCs to ask that Congress broadly advertise ACA enrollment opportunities. Don’t let the ACA die an unnatural death!

PROTECT THE DREAM ACT

TRUMP MAY DESTROY IT THIS WEEK: The future of thousands of Colorado young people is at stake this week as President Trump decides BEFORE SEPTEMBER 5 whether to end DACA – the BIPARTISAN program that protects young undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children. This would be a tragedy on an EPIC scale – one that would ruin the lives of many innocent people, including the classmates and friends of many of our children. This was a bipartisan moral solution – now Trump wants to undo it.
SCRIPT: “I am calling to ask the Senator to come out in support of DACA. We need his voice now as President Trump makes up his mind.”

Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos, and Michael Huttner, founder of ProgressNow, have written a timely new book “The Resistance Handbook: 45 Ways to Fight Trump.” This is a must-have playbook for those who want to fight back against Trump and protect our culture and communities while building the infrastructure the progressive movement needs.

Join ProgressNow Colorado and author Michael Huttner to talk about what we can do to fight back in the face of a four-year assault on racial justice, income equality, the environment, women’s rights, education, and worker’s rights.

FACTS MATTER with Vote Smart & Meet the Candidates

Amazing Turnout for a Grassroots East Boulder event!
Saturday, September 2 at 2 PM – 4 PM
Boulder County Democratic Party

Vote Smart’s mission is to provide free, factual, unbiased information on candidates and elected officials to all Americans. The New York Times has said “Experts nearly all recommend Vote Smart.” On 9/2, Richard Kimball, President of Vote Smart, will join us tell us why Facts Matter. His presentation will include:
• A brief history of the Founding Fathers’ intent regarding an informed electorate
• The increasing trend of candidates to move people emotionally instead of intellectually
• A demonstration of how you can easily access accurate information about candidates on the issues that are important to you.
• The crucial battle – facts, truth and reality versus manipulation, distortion and “fake news.”

In addition, supporting our elections theme, 2 candidates will join us:
– SOS Candidate, Jena Griswold, will talk about the role of the Secretary of State and how we can continue to improve elections in Colorado.
– AG Candidate, Phil Weiser, will talk about why the AG is important and why we need to elect a Democrat as AG to protect our environment and civil rights.

In Solidarity with Charlottesville:
Candlelight Vigil

About 100 of us gathered at Waneka Lake Sunday, August 13 to grieve the loss and honor the commitment at Charlottesville. It was an amazing show of community and uniting in the face of hatred and violence, and a call to take action against racial and social injustice. We used this reading from M. Maureen Killoran to guide us:
“We come together from the diversity of our grieving,
to gather in the warmth of this community
giving stubborn witness to our belief that
in times of sadness, there is room for laughter.
In times of darkness, there will always be light.
May we hold fast to the conviction
that what we do with our lives matters
and that a caring world is possible after all.”
